Connew PC1 On Display at Cosworth
Time for a change of car in Cosworth’s reception, today we swapped the ex-Dick Johnson RS500 that Paul Linfoot of North Yorkshire RS Spares had kindly lent us with another stunning Cosworth-engined race car. This is the Connew PC1, created by Peter Connew for the the 1972 Formula 1 season. Aided by a small group of family and friends, they created a brand new F1 car powered by the legendary DFV. With François Migault at the wheel, the car qualified for the Austrian Grand Prix, and was en-route to a finish just outside of the top 10 when it was sidelined with a suspension issue.
But the story of this amazing car didn’t end there. For the last few years Peter, Barry Boor and and a small group of family and friends have worked hard to restore the PC1 back to its former glory. Modatek were delighted to help out with engine installation advice, using drawings from the era to assist with the location of the plumbing for the engine. And we are extremely grateful to Peter and his team for letting us borrow this car to display in Cosworth’s reception area.
