Description
Our Cosworth YB MLS head gasket YB1429 is made for Cosworth by Victor Reinz in Germany, after extensive design & development work by both companies. This gasket is made from multi layer steel (MLS). It is constructed from layers of thin sheets of spring and carbon steel that sandwich the sealing material.
The upper and lower steel sheets contain a pressed beading that runs around the perimeter of the bores and passageways to increase the local sealing capability. When the head fasteners are tightened, the beading deforms to create extra sealing pressure. This ensures that combustion gases, lubricating oil and coolant all stay away from each other and remain inside the engine. This MLS gaskets also contains an inner layer called a stopper that prevents plastic deformation of the beading.
Further, the top and bottom layers have an elastomer coating to reduce friction. This coating helps to prevent microscopic movement of the gasket. Too much movement could lead to reduced life of the gasket and the firefaces on the head and block.
As a result of these details, our Cosworth YB MLS head gasket is one of the most resilient gaskets available.
