Description
The Cosworth YB1261 head gasket is made by Victor Reinz for Cosworth. These YB1261 head gaskets are similar to the YB0611 head gaskets that we stock, but they also feature metal reinforcements around the oil passageway holes.
This gasket is constructed from a a unique proprietary material that is made up from a substrate sheet coated on both sides with Aramid fibres. The sheet also contains a heat-resistant asbestos substitute material. The sheet is carefully rolled to the required thickness, and then a coating of silicone resin is applied and polymerised to serve as binder. Further, each bore has a swaged stainless steel ring to prevent damage from blow-by and chemical erosion (these rings are also sometimes referred to as fire rings).
This construction of head gasket was developed by Cosworth during the Group A era. It proved to be the solution to many of the head joint issues that Cosworth were suffering as they sought to extract more power from the YB engine to stay ahead of the competition.
In addition to the Cosworth YB1261 head gasket, we also stock the multi layer steel version YB1429 WRC HEAD GASKET.
