Description
This set contains 8 x Cosworth main bearings (5 x YB0130 & 5 x YB0347) for the YB series of engines. These bearings are manufactured at the original Vandervell bearing plant in Kilmarnock, now under Mahle ownership. Over the years, Cosworth have specified Vandervell bearings for all of its high performance road and race engines, and we are proud to be able to continue to supply them today. After all, we have over 60 years of winning experience that we can rely on. This means that our bearings are the best in the business!
Our Cosworth main bearings are tri-metallic VP2 bearings, made up from three discrete metallic layers; a steel backing, a strip-cast lead bronze substrate and a lead indium overlay. First of all, the steel backing is made from a high strength steel alloy. This allows the bearing to be interfered into the rod and cap halves without yielding. Next, the lead bronze substrate layer gives the bearing its load carrying capability. This layer has the right balance of elements to cope with wear, cavitation and extreme loads that are seen in a high-performance engine. Finally, the lead-indium overlay protects the bronze layer from damage. This overlay gives the bearing three important characteristics: conformability, compatibility and embeddability.
As a result of this unique construction, our bearings are able to handle the most extreme pressures and loads.
In addition, we also stock the original Cosworth rod bearings for the YB engines, which is comprised of the same tri-metallic structure from Mahle.
Dimensions
- Classification = Standard size
- Length = 23.24/23.62 mm
- Housing diameter = 60.620/60.640 mm
- Shaft diameter = 56.959/56.975 mm
Important Note!
Before ordering these bearings please ensure that the width of the tag slots in the mains caps is wider than the width of the tag slots in the block!
This is because early blocks had the same width of tag slots in the block and mains caps. The tag width was then increased on the lower bearings during the life of the YB, presumably to make it impossible to mix up the upper and lower bearings during build. The width increased by around 0.5mm, and the mains bearings that we sell have these wider tags on the lower shells.
So if you have an early block then the lower bearings won’t fit into the mains caps, unless either the tag in the bearing is narrowed down, or the tag slot width in the mains caps is increased.
