Description
For the last 30 years, all Formula 1 engines have run a pneumatic valvetrain, using the compression of air or gas to replicate a conventional wire spring. Pneumatic valve springs are also common on some other premier motorsport categories like Moto GP. Some engine manufacturers refer to it as the PVRS (pneumatic valve return system) or AVS (air valve spring). One important component in the pneumatic valvetrain is the pressure regulator. This device is spring-loaded and can be set to ensure that the supply of the gas going into the engine is at a consistent pressure regardless of the pressure of gas in the bottle.
We have worked with the Cosworth’s original air pressure regulator supplier IMF to produce brand new regulators for use on historic race cars (including those not fitted with Cosworth engines). These regulators are identical to the ones that Cosworth used on their Formula 1 engines between 1999 and 2006.
Our regulator has a maximum supply pressure of 250 bar and has an output pressure that can be set to between 13 and 22 bar.
We also offer the option of having new pressure transducers installed into the regulator. These transducers are supplied by Druck, who again were the original manufacturer. One transducer records the supply pressure from the gas bottle, and the second transducer records the pressure going into the engine.
These regulators and pressure transducers are manufactured to order. If you would like more details then please contact us.
