Jaguar R2 Formula 1 Car Visits Cosworth

The Cat is Back!

Look what we’ve just dropped into Cosworth’s reception! This is the Jaguar R2 Formula 1 car as driven in the 2001 season. This very chassis was driven that year by Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa throughout the season. Although it might not have claimed a victory, it did go on to collect a useful handful of points. It was though widely acclaimed to be one of the most attractive cars on the grid. It still looks amazing, resplendent in its iconic green and white livery.

This car is fitted with the same spec of Cosworth CR3 3.0-litre V10 naturally-aspirated engine that it raced with that year. The engine was known within Cosworth as the CK2001. This was a developmental iteration of the extremely successful CK engine that first debuted in 1999. By 2001, the engine was capable of reaching speeds over 18,000 rpm and producing over 800 bhp.

Jaguar R2 Complete Restoration

Prior to being put on display, this car underwent a full ground-up restoration by LRS Formula. Modatek were able to help out by supplying parts and consultancy on the rebuild of the engine.

Over the years we’ve been able to help out with restoration of many similar cars, using our extensive network of contacts, 25 plus years of experience and exclusive access to Cosworth’s drawing archive

This car is now ready to run again, and we can’t wait to hear it when it does. Maybe we’ll get to do a cheeky fire-up in the car park before it ventures off to the track! Many thanks to the current owner for letting us borrow the car to put on display at Cosworth.

We just had to take photos of this iconic early ’00s Formula 1 car – check out our gallery below of just a few of these photos. We think you’ll agree that this car is definitely the cat’s whiskers!
